Professional Conduct At Large
As a mentor:

1) I will not pretend that it is my personal self that is doing the mentoring, and will allow the awakeness space to be with the other person during their mentoring time period. I will seek to interfere with this awakeness as little as possible during the sessions.

2) I will be aware of any issues that may potentially lead to the misuse of personal influence in mentoring and the way in which it may affect the lives of others.

3) I will at all times strive to recognize personal issues that may impair, conflict or interfere with my mentoring performance or my professional relationships. Whenever the facts and circumstances necessitate, I will promptly seek professional assistance and determine the action to be taken, including whether it is appropriate to suspend or terminate my mentoring relationship(s).

4)I will respect the confidentiality of my mentee's information, except as otherwise authorized by my mentee, or as required by law. I will maintain confidentiality concerning anything that occurs within the sessions and will accurately create, maintain, store and dispose of any records of work done in relation to the practice of mentoring in a way that promotes confidentiality and complies with any applicable laws.

Professional Conduct With Mentees

5) I will be responsible for setting clear, appropriate, and culturally sensitive boundaries that govern contact that I may have with my mentees
and will not become sexually involved with any of my mentees.

6) I will construct clear agreements with my mentees, and will honor all agreements made in the context of professional mentoring relationships.

7) I will ensure that, prior to or at the initial session, my mentee understands the nature of awakeness mentoring, the bounds of confidentiality, financial arrangements and other terms of the mentoring agreement.

8) I will accurately identify my qualifications, expertise and experience as a mentor.

9) I will not intentionally mislead or make false claims about what my mentee will receive from the mentoring process or from me as their mentor.

10) I will not give my mentees or prospective mentees information or advice I know or believe to be misleading.

11) I will not knowingly exploit any aspect of the mentor-mentee relationship for my personal, professional or monetary advantage or benefit
.
12) I will respect the mentee's right to terminate mentoring at any point during the process. I will be alert to indications that the mentee is no longer benefiting from the mentoring.

13) If I believe the mentee would be better served by another mentor, or by another resource, I will encourage the mentee to make a change.

14) I will suggest that my mentees seek the services of other professionals when deemed appropriate or necessary.

15) I will take all reasonable steps to notify the appropriate authorities in the event a mentee discloses an intention to endanger self or others.

Conflicts of Interest
16) I will seek to avoid any potential conflicts between my interests and the interests of my mentees, and should such a potential conflict arise, I will openly disclose it and fully discuss with my mentee how to deal with it in whatever way best serves my mentee.

17) I will only barter for services, goods or other non-monetary remuneration when it will not impair the mentoring relationship.

Pledge of Ethics
As a professional mentor, I acknowledge and agree to honor my ethical obligations to my mentees and colleagues and to the public at large. I pledge to comply with this Code of Ethics, to treat people with dignity as independent and equal human beings, and to model these standards with those whom I mentor.
